STEP BY STEP GUIDE FOR LOSS OF PASSPORT IN CAMBODIA

If you've lost your passport in Cambodia, it's essential to act quickly to secure a replacement and ensure your stay remains legal. Here's a step-by-step guide:

Step 1 : Book a cheap hotel nearby your embassy; the waiting time frame is approximately 7-9 days.

For Indians : New Seasons at Riverside (Their restaurant serves Indian and halal food).
**Average price from Agoda is 15 – 23 USD per night.
For Indonesians: Angkor Mithona Guest House (Padang Nusantara serves muslim Indonesians food)
 
Estimated costs for 7 – 9 days : 120 USD
 

Step 2 : Passport Photo Taking

Check Photo Requirements:
  • Research your embassy's specific passport photo requirements (size, background color, etc.) before heading out.
  • Avoid wearing earrings or other accessories, as some embassies might reject photos with them.

Step 3: Lodge a Police Report at the General Department of Identification (GDI)

Visit Early: Arrive at the GDI as early as possible in the morning to avoid long waiting times.

Important Note: Avoid visiting the nearest police station, as they might charge between $150 and $200 for the report.

Step 4: Visit Your Embassy

After Receiving the Police Report: Head directly to your embassy (if one is available in Phnom Penh), preferably in the morning.

Required Documents:
  • Completed application form.
  • Passport-sized photos.
  • Police report.
  • Flight ticket.

Processing Timeline:
Your embassy will typically ask you to return in 3 working days to collect your temporary passport.

For Countries Without an Embassy in Phnom Penh
Nearest Embassy: Contact your embassy in Bangkok (Thailand) or Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam).
Alternative Options: Some embassies have a representative in Phnom Penh to assist with documentation. Others may use DHL to send your documents and temporary exit letter to your hotel.

Processing Fee:
Range: $7 – $20, depending on the embassy.
 

Step 5: Visit the Department of Immigration

Morning Visit:
  • Head to the Department of Immigration opposite Phnom Penh Airport by 10:30 AM.
  • Line up at the "Exit Visa" counter.
  • Fill out the application form provided by the officers.

Same-Day Afternoon Return:
  • Return at 3:00 PM to pay the required fees:
  • Processing Fee.
  • Overstay Fees (if applicable).

Next-Day Collection:
  • Return the following day at 10:00 AM.
  • Proceed to the right counter to collect your tempoary passport and/or exit letter

Step 6: Home Sweet Home

With your temporary passport and exit visa ready, proceed to the airport.
  • Board your flight and safely return home.
  • Upon arrival, visit your local passport office to apply for a new permanent passport.

If the collection of passport falls on a Wednesday, your flight ticket would be Friday afternoon after 3pm to play safe.
